Meeting Minutes August 20, 2011

The regular meeting of the Chimes Junior Honorary was called to order by President Christina Farmer on Tuesday August 30, 2011, at 9:00 P.M. in Bluestem Bistro. Roll call was answered by 25 members and 1 advisor.


President Christina Farmer reported that the Chimes meeting dates have been set for the rest of the semester and reminded members to put the dates on calendars. VP of Administration Torey Berndt reported to review the constitution and reminded everyone that three unexcused absences is all members are allowed. VP of Finance Kelly Zachariasen reported that the Chimes balance is $1,805.01, and asked those who hadn’t paid dues to please do so.


Event Planning Chairmen Theo Stavropoulos and Meg Swagerty reported on Family of the Year. Chimes will be providing everything to the family, cost-wise. They reported that finances had been allocated for invitations, programs, and a banner. The brunch will be Saturday September 17, 2011, at 9:00 A.M. Chimes members are required to be at the event. During the game, the Family of the Year will be honored during the first media timeout of the second quarter. They also reported that Chimes will have a September social BBQ on September 27, at Christina’s house.


Service Chairmen Jordan Fief and Andrea Fouts reported on a day of service that will be held Saturday September 10. There are two places to volunteer, one at the Manhattan Emergency Center and the other at Habitat ReStore. Sign up sheets were passed around for each opportunity.


VP of Public Relations Lauren Swirbul reported that she had set up a Chimes twitter account that is CHIMES_KSU. Also she asked for those to pay for shirts, and asked for possible ways to spread the word about Chimes. She asked for volunteers to spread the word about Chimes among the leadership classes. VP of Membership Grant Hill reported that he had gotten a timeline set up for next semester regarding selections. Grant Hill also reported for the Take Charge Challenge, and asked for members to take light bulbs and register them online to help K-State beat KU. The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 P.M., with committees meeting after the general meeting.

Meeting Minutes 3/29/2011

    for our service event on April 12 & 14 from 3-7. You only need to help out with one day. We will
    be helping out at Habitat for Humanity Restore, and more details to come!

Meeting Minutes 2/15/2011

• All Chimes members are encouraged to apply to senior honoraries. Applications are due this Friday!
• Please remember to email me if you will be absent along with a reason of absence
• If you have not paid off the past couple social events, please do so. If you don’t know if you’ve paid or not, contact Andrew at desloge@ksu.edu
• Chimes Applications for the upcoming year are due next Wednesday 2/23 at 5:00 PM in OSAS.
• 3/2 will be the last day for applicants to choose a time to interview
• Future Chimes members will be tapped before the induction ceremony, which will be held 3/9 at 9:00. More details to come.
• The Chimes dinner was a success and we will be having a similar social event in late March
• Please stop by the K-State Proud booth during the week of 2/14-2/18 and help fold t-shirts or make buttons.
• Upcoming service opportunities include going to greet the elderly at Meadowlark Hills on 2/27, a service event for the Salvation Army in March and a joint service project with the incoming Chimes class at K-State open house

Meeting Minutes 1/17/2011

• Certain points of the constitution have been voted on and revised:
-Committee proposal (#2) for Officers changed to 7 positions

-Membership will now be 30 members

-Natalie's proposal regarding Committees. There will now be 3 standing committees (Membership, Events and Community Relations) as well as one Ad Hoc committee for constitutional review. Scholarship will be incorporated under the membership committee

-Chimes members can withdraw for whatever the reason may be. A negative consequence was tabled for next meeting

-Chimes members with 3 unexcused absences come before the executive board and will decide on punishment up to termination. Termination will require a 2/3 vote from entire Chimes membership.
• Due to unforeseen circumstances, a new Service and Scholarship Chair have been elected. Zach Nelson will now serve as a Selection Chairman and Rachel James will now serve as a Service Chairman
• Everyone needs to bring a copy of your schedule to the next Chimes Meeting to coordinate new member tapping
• We have set an organizational goal to have at least 100 students apply to be a part of next year’s Chimes and will conduct 40-50 interviews
• We will be reaching out all over campus to ensure that we find the most capable and diverse students that fit the Chimes recipe
• We are in the process of working a corporate deal to sponsor next year’s family of the year celebration. If you have any ideas or please email me or Steven. This will take less of next year’s budget away and allow them to give out Scholarships. It was undecided if scholarships should be cut for the incoming members

Meeting Minutes 11/30/2010

• Logan Gauby and Mallory Barmby came to talk about the All-University Open House on April 16, 2011. They are starting to recruit volunteers early so if you are interested please email them at mbarby@ksu.edu or lmgauby@ksu.edu
• Please shoot me an email before the next meeting if you will be absent along with a reason for that absence
• We will be sending out fundraising opportunities soon, so be looking for an email
• Our Holiday Social will be this upcoming Tuesday December 7 at 7:00. We will be baking cookies, decorating them and watching Elf. It is mandatory that you bring $3 to the event but please come out and have fun!
• Look for an email regarding when the Constitution Committee will have their meeting. It will be before our retreat
• We will be helping Mortar Board Senior Honorary out with the Academic Decathlon on Friday January 21 from 4:30-7 PM or 7-10 PM, and January 22 8 AM-12 PM. This is a mandatory event so please send an email to Chelsea Corkins at ccorkins@ksu.edu for more information if you have not already signed up
• On this Sunday December 5, the Manhattan Good Neighbors Association will be decorating old people’s homes for Christmas. If you cannot go to the Social on the 7th please try to show up from 1-3 PM. They will be meeting at the Beach Museum off of Anderson St.

Meeting Minutes 11/16/2010

• Remember, 3 Unexcused Absences in a semester means you will go before the Executive Committee
• Officer Reports are due the Sunday, or 48 hours before each meeting
• Email Mike at mikee04@ksu.edu if you will be absent
• For our fundraising needs we will work the concession stands and clean-up Bramlage after men’s basketball games earning approximately $200
• Our Holiday Social Event will be December 7th at 7 pm. We will be decorating cookies and bringing them to Medowlark Hills along with other locations
• Don’t forget to wear your shirts on days of meetings
• Our November/December Service Plans include the Mortar Board academic decathlon. They will need 100 volunteers Jan 21 and 22 and we are required to do a service event with another honorary
• On Dec. 5th there will be a Holiday Lights event as makeup for Dec. 7th event. More details to come
• On Saturday, March 5th interviews we be held from 8-12 and Sunday, March 6th interview 10-2 (if necessary)
